IT'S NOT ABOUT EQUALITY BUT EQUITY

A conversation in the surrounding of the sweet smell of land, the fragrance of blooms, and over a cup of morning tea in the garden is the perfect time to start and cherish every moment out of it. A slight sunrise with deep rays is what that can give a positive kick to admire the beauty of nature all day long. Maya and Dhairya were enjoying such beautiful start of the day. A slight gossip turned into the heartfelt conversation.

Dhairya asked Maya “I was wondering that after so many years of our marriage, yesternight I felt like you want to talk about something, but you were hesitating. I don’t know if I am right or not but if something is in your heart just speak out.” And then he took a sip of tea.

Maya was hesitant how Dhairya always reads her heart, even if she never told him anything. Then Maya hesitantly replied, “Yes, there was something running in my mind for last several days. But this is of no use because what I thought doesn’t set fit in our societal norms.”

Dhairya smiled and said, “Honey, you can share with me at least. We are together for last so many years. I think I deserve your arguments. We can think of it and can draw conclusions if possible. Isn’t it?”

Maya replied, “Of course we can but sometimes we need to think what others will think of our decision. So some issues can’t be sorted out.”

Dhairya with his calm attitude asked, “Is everything fine, dear? Can you tell me what is in your mind?”

Maya with a sad smile asked him “For so many years I am with you. We live with your parents. I respect them and you respect mine too. Still, sometimes I feel like my parents got neglected as after our marriage I came to your place. I left my home, my parents, almost everything. I respect you. You always supported me, loved me. I don’t have any regrets with my life. But now in this later age, my parents need me too but there is no equality in the norms of our society. Leave it. It’s not of your concern.”

Dhairya smiled and replied in a very pleasing way, “You were thinking for last many days but didn’t dare to ask me what I feel for the same. I agree you respect me and owed everything for the sake of my family happy.  So I want to ask you something. You trust me or not?”

Maya hesitantly said, “Yes, of course, I trust you more than myself.”

Dhairya replied, “This sounds quite well. Now listen, I agree I can’t give you equality but the equity. Today we will go to meet your parents and will make it sure that they will come to live with us. Equality says we will share equally what we have but equity says we should give what the other needs. It’s the responsibility of both, not the sole. It's the time they should come to us to live. It should be our decision not what the others or our society think. It's our family matter and we will take the decision. Yes, they are in later age, now they need more love and concern. I am taking the off from office and we both will go there.”

The eyes of Maya were filled with tears of love, a shine of desires and Dhairya was happy as he made the day of Maya. He not only gave her right but her life to her. They all lived happily because the house was not of bricks but the bricks of commitment and cement of understanding. The rain of desires never touched them but the breeze of divine always fragranced the indoors.

EQUALITY SAYS THAT RESPECT, LOVE AND EVERYTHING SHOULD BE GIVEN TO ALL EQUALLY, WHERE EQUITY SAYS WHO DESERVE SHOULD GET. It's not about Maya or Dhairya but about if we deserve the blessing of parents then it's the responsibility of both son and daughter to take care of their parents despite the societal norms. We get equal education and expenses throughout our life then we should also pay it back when the time arrives. We should not bias on the basis of gender, cast, creed but share them all with equity when the time arrives.

Yes, it’s not about the equality but about the equity, who deserve should get equally, when the need originates. Otherwise, there will always be the imbalance of thoughts, disagreements in relations. It’s about the responsibility towards each other, their needs and their contentment. When we start understanding each other the bond becomes spiritual, beyond the materialistic pleasures of life. It’s not about only husband-wife, parents, siblings, pets and friends, but for every relationship you establish. When you are selfless, the self-becomes divine.
