A HOPE- DIWALI, PART 1
DIPAWALI- THE FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS. The light that ignites the soul, refreshes the body and strengthen the relations. Every year we eagerly wait for this festive season, to celebrate it with equal enthusiasm. Not only we visit our dear ones but appreciate everything. A lot to do in our TO-DO LIST like new clothes, new decors, and gifting traditions. THE DIPAWALI is not about to have shinning houses, sweets but most importantly to SPREAD LIGHT OF HAPPINESS AND LOVE. But we do is to bargain with every fellow who is poor and spend a lot of money on unnecessary items.
“BABA, IT’S ABOUT 4-5 DAYS LEFT FOR DIWALI. CAN YOU GIVE ME RS. 10? I WILL PURCHASE BIJLI BOMB.”, Deepak asked his father with shine in the eyes, glow on the face while his father was making Diyas for the Diwali. And with some hiding disappointment, he gave Rs 10 to him.
Meanwhile, her mother came and scolded him “WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THIS RS 10. CRACKERS ARE JUST WASTE OF MONEY. IT’S A BIG AMOUNT. COMING DIWALI PEOPLE WILL BARGAIN AND WE WILL GIVE 2 DIYAS FOR RS 10 BUT IT TAKES ABOUT 1 DAY PROCESS TO MAKE SUCH DIYAS.” While interrupting the mother, Deepak’s father let go the child with some instructions “BETA, NOW COME TO ME ON DIWALI EVENING, I WILL GIVE YOU A LOT OF CRACKERS.”
The child went to buy crackers and wife with some tears asked “HOW WILL YOU MANAGE TO BUY A LOT OF CRACKERS FOR DEEPAK. YOU KNOW THAT PEOPLE WILL BUY DIYAS ONLY FOR DIWALI POOJAN AND SHAGUN. REST THE CANDLES AND CHINESE LIGHT WILL REPLACE OUR TRADITIONAL DIYA. DON’T LIE WITH DEEPAK. HE WILL EXPECT THAT PEOPLE WILL BUY DIYAS AND WILL BE RICH FOR WHOLE YEAR IN A DAY.”
Deepak’s father answered, “IT’S OK DEAR, WE WILL MANAGE, AND WE WILL EAT LESS. BUT NEVER LET DEEPAK’S EXPECTATIONS DIE. DON’T YOU NOTICE HIS SHINNING EYES AND GLOWING FACE? IT’S OUR DUTY TO MAKE HIM REALIZE, RICHNESS IS BY HEART, NOT BY MONEY.”
Mother replied,” I AGREE BUT IT’S NOT THAT EASY. MAYBE RS 10 FOR HIM IS PACKET OF JOY TO HIM BUT FOR US ITS HARD WORK OF MANY DAY AND NIGHTS, HUNGER OF A YEAR, EXPECTATIONS OF THIS WEEK. A FEW YEARS BACK, WE USE TO BE HAPPY THAT DIWALI WILL BRING HAPPINESS BUT NOW IT BRINGS ONLY BARGAINING.”
And suddenly, Deepak came and asked her mother to serve him dinner, and told that day after tomorrow will be the Diwali competition in his school. He was overwhelmed that it’s the week of joy, it’s the week of Diwali.
To be continued…..
